Dear residents of Washington’s 5th Congressional District,
It is with a heavy heart and a deep sense of concern for our nation’s security and values that I urge you to take immediate action regarding Representative Michael Baumgartner’s recent behavior. On Friday, following the shocking incident in the White House, Baumgartner issued a statement that has many of us questioning his allegiance and his commitment to the people he represents. By issuing an uncritical call for President Zelensky to act in a way that seemingly aligns with Russian interests, Baumgartner has become, whether intentionally or not, a tool of Vladimir Putin’s propaganda machine.
In a time of rising global tension, as Russia continues its unprovoked war on Ukraine, it is critical that our leaders remain steadfast in their support of democratic nations fighting for their sovereignty. Baumgartner’s statements—at best misguided and at worst a dangerous alignment with Russian rhetoric—send a message of weakness and confusion at a time when we need clarity and resolute leadership.
This is not about party lines or personal politics. This is about standing up for what is right: supporting the global fight for freedom and democracy, and ensuring that our elected officials are acting in the best interests of the United States, not serving the interests of autocratic regimes. The people of Washington’s 5th District deserve a representative who places the security of our nation, the values of freedom, and the defense of our allies above partisan gamesmanship or personal political gain.
Michael Baumgartner’s actions have raised serious concerns, and it is time for him to be held accountable. We cannot afford to have someone in Congress who is so easily manipulated by the forces that threaten our global security. We must demand that he resign from his position immediately.
