Michael Baumgartner Is Failing Eastern Washington: A Look at His Voting Record

Since taking office in January 2025, Representative Michael Baumgartner has repeatedly voted against the interests of his constituents. His record so far shows a pattern of siding with party leadership over addressing the needs of Eastern Washington.

Blocking Infrastructure Improvements

Baumgartner voted against a federal infrastructure bill that would have upgraded roads, bridges, and public transit. Eastern Washington’s aging infrastructure needs investment, but he chose ideological opposition over practical benefits for his district.

Opposing Lower Healthcare Costs

He voted against capping insulin prices, despite the high number of residents struggling with diabetes. Instead of helping families afford life-saving medication, he prioritized party politics.

Undercutting Rural Schools

Baumgartner opposed additional funding for rural schools, which would have provided better resources for students and teachers. His vote ignored the reality that underfunded schools limit future opportunities for Eastern Washington’s children.

Ignoring Environmental Protection

When a bill aimed at protecting local water sources from industrial pollution came up, Baumgartner voted no. With agriculture playing a major role in the region’s economy, clean water should be a priority—but he chose to side with polluters instead.

Refusing to Protect Rural Mail Service

In meetings with representatives of the letter carrier union, Baumgartner said nice things but reading between the lines refused to commit to preventing Trump from taking over the U.S. Postal Service. Rural veterans depend on the mail for their prescription medications, and many Eastern Washington residents rely on it for essential services. His unwillingness to stand up for reliable mail delivery puts lives and livelihoods at risk.

Putting Party Over People

Baumgartner’s record shows he isn’t focused on improving life for his constituents. Instead, he consistently votes against measures that would benefit Eastern Washington. If he continues on this path, his constituents will be the ones paying the price.
