My son works for the US Forest Service. He is a district ranger in Utah, the Spanish Fork district of the Uinta National Forest. He called us last Thursday night to say he had just fired three of his employees who had recieved the nasty letter from DOGE. This letter said they had been fired for cause: that their performance had been unsatisfactory, and that this was a permanent termination–they would be ineligible for rehire and could not apply for unemployment because they had been fired. He then told me, “Mom, I think I’m next.” He has a wife and child, and working for the US Forest Service has been his lifelong dream
