DOGE cuts to BPA, which controls 75% of the power generation for 5 western states including Washington from 31 dams and 1 nuclear plant, are producing an unstable power grid by DOGE’s ignorance and stupidity. The job cuts and Federal support freeze do nothing to reduce Federal costs as BPA is self supporting. We rate-payers – in Walla Walla either through Columbia REA or Pacific Power – pay for its operations. Experts say that when the grid goes down it is hard to restart. This affects all of us even those with solar power.
DOGE impact, from a letter to the President from Oregon officials, cite the following direct impacts on BPA: resignation of about 200 employees, rescinding of 90 new job offers and the looming layoff of up to 400 probattionary employees. Another expert cites 20% of the BPA workforce is being lost – a highly specialized workforce necessary for its operation.
Malice? Insanity? Arrogance? Blind adherence to a self-serving ideology? All of the above?
