Constitutional Sheriffs: A Dangerous and Deluded Attack on the Rule of Law

The constitutional sheriff movement is a blatant and ignorant distortion of the Constitution, one that undermines the rule of law and promotes dangerous, authoritarian thinking. Those who believe sheriffs have the power to ignore state and federal laws are either completely uninformed or willfully misleading. This idea is a direct attack on the very foundation of the United States—our system of laws and the checks and balances built into it.

Have you heard Sheriff Crider say he is a “Constitutional Sheriff?” Tell us about it here!

The core of this movement is the laughable notion that sheriffs can pick and choose which laws they want to enforce. The Constitution is clear: federal law is supreme, and local authorities do not have the power to override it. To claim that a county sheriff can ignore laws passed by elected representatives is not just wrong—it’s a blatant misreading of the Constitution.

Anyone who believes in this idea has completely ignored the Supremacy Clause, which explicitly states that federal law takes precedence over state law. These so-called “constitutional sheriffs” are trying to create a fantasy where one local official can disregard the authority of higher levels of government. This is not only wrong—it’s dangerous.

What’s more disturbing is that this movement encourages lawlessness. If sheriffs can decide not to enforce laws they disagree with, they open the door to selective enforcement based on personal beliefs. This breaks down the integrity of the justice system, creating chaos where law enforcement can act without accountability or oversight.

The people who push this idea are either ignorant of or outright disregarding the Constitution. They twist parts of the document to suit their agenda, ignoring the broader framework that guides this country. The Constitution was designed to create a balanced system of government, not to give a lone sheriff absolute authority to act outside the law.

These so-called defenders of liberty are not protecting anything—they are undermining the very principles that uphold it. They cherry-pick parts of the Constitution to justify their radical views while ignoring the bigger picture. The reality is that no one individual, not even a sheriff, has the right to act above the law. This movement promotes the opposite of freedom—it promotes tyranny under the guise of local authority.

It’s hypocritical, too. These are the same people who claim to support law and order but want to throw it out when it doesn’t fit their personal beliefs. If you believe in the rule of law, you don’t get to ignore it when it’s inconvenient. The Constitution doesn’t give sheriffs the power to overrule laws—they are there to enforce them.

If these people were truly committed to justice, they would recognize that the rule of law is what ensures fairness for everyone, not just for those who agree with them. Allowing sheriffs to pick and choose which laws to enforce destroys public trust in law enforcement and creates division, not unity.

To anyone still supporting this idiotic movement: get a grip. The Constitution is not a tool for your personal agenda. It was written to create a balanced government where no one person, no matter how much power they think they have, can ignore the law. The idea that sheriffs can act like dictators is laughable and dangerous.

The constitutional sheriff movement needs to be rejected for what it is—an attack on the rule of law and a path to chaos. Those who believe in it are not patriots; they are misinformed, self-serving individuals who refuse to accept the basic principles of governance and justice. This is not what America stands for.
