Wholesale destruction of 80 years of American capabilities and knowledge, created in the crucibles of Depression, world wars and even prosperity (that millions have enjoyed for the first time in human history) has begun by madman Trump. It is easy to destroy; difficult to create. And the destruction will increasingly be felt by Walla Walla. We are beginning to see its effects locally.
Recently we learned of two employees being terminated at McNary; 12 terminated by Umatilla Nat’l Forest Service; 22,terminated by Wallowa/Whitman Nat’l Forest Service. 1000 have been terminated from VA nationally – waiting to hear of local VA. A friend in the EPA reports that 8 colleagues were terminated. The TriCities Herald reported today about terminations at Hanford and the Pacific Northwest Nuclear Labs (PNNL). Fingers crossed that the 108 million promised by the Feds for completion of Highway 12 (expanding it to 4 lanes where it is still two lanes) will survive the cuts.
Anyone experiencing termination or know of people being released from Federal job or employment due to frozen budgets or canceled contracts should report it here so we all understand the consequences of the new administration’s actions.
